Features used
In this CAD tutorial we'll use the features:
1. Extrude (PAD) feature : Transform 2d sketch in a solid body.
2.Extruded cut (POCKET) feature: removes material from the part.
All dimensions are in mm/g/s/ISO
Here is the 3D model: you can interact with it, zoom in, rotate, and explore it to better understand all the details.
2D Sketch

Tutorial: CAD CAM Creating a Model in SOLIDWORKS 2025
Objective: Create a simple model with an extrusion and a hole using basic SOLIDWORKS tools.
Step 1: Create the Initial Sketch
Open SOLIDWORKS and start a new part document.
Select the Front Plane:
Go to the Sketch tab and click on Front Plane.
Draw the basic profile:
Use the Line tool to create the outline of the shape.
Add dimensions to the sketch:
Use the Smart Dimension tool to set:
8 mm for the bottom width.
100 mm for the total length.
25 mm for the side heights.
Step 2: Create the Extrusion
Exit the sketch by clicking Exit Sketch.
Go to the Features tab and select Extruded Boss/Base.
Set the extrusion parameters:
Direction: Select Mid Plane.
Distance: Enter 50 mm.
Click OK to complete the extrusion.
Step 3: Add the Hole
Select a flat face of the part to create the hole sketch.
Draw the circle:
Go to Sketch and select Circle.
Place a circle at the center of the face.
Dimension the circle:
Use Smart Dimension to define:
Diameter: 20 mm.
Distance from the top edge: 55 mm.
Set relations:
Select the center of the circle and the midpoint of the base line.
Use Add Relation to make the relation Vertical.
Step 4: Create the Cut
Exit the circle sketch.
Go to the Features tab and select Extruded Cut.
Set the cut parameters:
Direction: Choose Through All.
